BASE GROWTH TEMPERATURE AND PHYLLOCHRON FOR KIKUYU GRASS (Cenchrus clandestinas; Poaceae) Acta biol.Colomb.
ACERO-CAMELO,Amanda; MOLINA,Esteban; PARRA-CORONADO,Alfonso; FISCHER,Gerhard; CARULLA-FORNAGUERA,Juan Evangelista.
ABSTRACT In order to estimate the base temperature (Bt) of growth through the appearance of leaves and calculate the phyllochron for kikuyu grass, three plots were established on three farms in the Provincia of Ubaté (Cundinamarca, Colombia) located at different altitudes (2560, 2640, 3143 m. a. s. l.). Measurements were made in four cycles in a period of eight months. The Bt was estimated by the least coefficient of variation method using a second order regression model and the model obtained was validated by the cross-validation method. The Bt values for the first, second, third and fourth leafwere 4.02, 3.68, 3.93, and 3.62 °C, respectively. For the appearance of the first leaf, the kikuyu required more thermal time (TT) (97.5 accumulated growing degree...

Benefits of liquid urea and a microbial catalyst on biomass and the nutritional value of Mombasa grass Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Alquichire Rojas,Shirley Lorena; Valencia-Chin,Elide.
Abstract During 2019, an experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Experiment Station in Isabela (Puerto Rico) on an Oxisol with previously well-stablished stands of cv. Mombasa. This experiment assessed the effects of a microbial catalyst (MC) and liquid urea 22-0-0 (LU) at a rate of 168 kg ha-1 (in split applications), a mixture of LU+MC and a control on aboveground biomass, root biomass, nutritional value, nitrogen use efficiency and soil parameters on cv. Mombasa at 35-day (d) harvests during six harvests. The study was established in a completely randomized design with four replicates. The effects of LU and MC on belowground (root) biomass were determined by collecting samples in 1 m2 to determine the yield and chemical composition. Soil samples...

Brachiaria brizantha Stapf access evaluation and estimates of genetic parameters for agronomical characters - DOI: 10.4025/actasciagron.v31i1.6605 Agronomy
Basso, Kelen Cristina; UEM; Resende, Rosangela Maria Simeão; EMBRAPA; Valle, Cacilda Borges do; EMBRAPA; Gonçalves, Manoel Carlos; UFGD; Lempp, Beatriz; UFGD.
Currently, Brachiaria brizantha Stapf is the tropical grass with the largest cultivated area in Brazil, being responsible for a major part of the seed market and for the increase in animal production. There are several superior genotypes available in germplasm banks, collected from the African continent and in need of evaluation. The selection of these genotypes must be based on predicted genotype values of the individuals in function of being perennial plants and of unsexed propagation. The standard procedure for the prediction of genetic values is the individual BLUP (Best Linear Unbiased Predictor), using estimates of variance components achieved by the restricted maximum likelihood (REML) on an individual model. With the aim of selecting B. brizantha...

Fatty acid profile in vertical strata of elephant grass subjected to intermittent stocking Anais da ABC (AABC)
DIAS,KAMILA M.; SCHMITT,DANIEL; RODOLFO,GISELLE R.; DESCHAMPS,FRANCISCO C.; CAMARGO,GUILHERME N.; PEREIRA,RAPHAEL S.; SBRISSIA,ANDRÉ F..
ABSTRACT The milk and meat from animals with a pasture-based diet have higher proportions of CLA and C18:3 and lower omega-6:omega-3 ratios than products from animals with diets based on corn silage and concentrate. However, most of the published studies have evaluated fatty acid profiles in temperate climate grasses and the literature with tropical grasses is scarce. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the morphological and fatty acid compositions in the vertical strata of elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schum.) swards subjected to grazing heights (90 or 120 cm pre-grazing heights) and levels of defoliation (50% or 70% removal of the initial pre-grazing height). There were no interactions among pre-grazing height, the level of defoliation and...

ABSTRACTThe objective of this work was to evaluate the inclusion of Fabaceae Flemingia macrophylla (Willd.) Kuntze ex Merr. in the diet of lactating dairy goats arranged in a 5 × 5 Latin square. The diets were composed of 40% of concentrate and 60% of roughage, and the dietary treatments were defined by the level of Flemingia hay inclusion (0%, 8%, 16%, 24%, and 32% in the diet dry matter) replacing Cynodon dactyloncv. Tifton 85 hay. The diets were isonitrogenous, with 14% crude protein. Feed intake, nutrient digestibility, feeding behavior, and ruminal pH and ammonia nitrogen were evaluated. There was no difference in dry matter intake with the inclusion of Flemingia hay in the diet. The digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, neutral...

Key factors that influence for seasonal production of Guinea grass Scientia Agricola
Araujo,Leandro Coelho de; Santos,Patricia Menezes; Rodriguez,Daniel; Pezzopane,José Ricardo Macedo.
ABSTRACT: Climate, soil and management are the main drives for growth and production of tropical pastures. Thus, a better understanding of the effects of these factors and their interactions under climate conditions is required to obtain effective management options. Here, we used data from two field trials to research on climate and management interactions on the production seasonality of Panicum maximum Jacq. Treatments included four sampling times (250, 500, 750, and 1000 °C accumulated) during eight regrowth period, under irrigated and rainfed conditions and, cuts were made to simulate grazing intensity. All treatments were arranged in a completely randomized block design with four replications. At each sampling time, basal tillers were sampled to...

Pastagens nativas e cultivadas no Pantanal Mato-Grossense. Infoteca-e
COMASTRI FILHO, J. A..
